About Ladybug Run

Join us for the seventh annual running of this fun and unique family-friendly event on July 21, 2018. Our primary goal is to promote awareness of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), a serious birth defect that occurs in one out of approximately 2,500 births and has a fatality rate of nearly 50%. All race entry fees and product sales for the event will go directly to help children and families whose lives have been impacted by this birth defect. Last year our amazingly generous sponsors covered the entire cost of the race and we were able to raise over $30,000 to benefit the Ladybug CDH Foundation and we’re hoping to be able to do even better this year with your help and generosity.

Venue

On the banks of the Tualatin River, Cook Park (17005 SW 92nd Ave, Tigard, OR 97224) offers endless opportunities to play and enjoy the outdoors. At 79-acres, Cook Park is the largest park in the city of Tigard. Along with sports fields and picnic shelters, you’ll find wetlands, wooded areas, open space, and a butterfly garden. Join us as we literally take over the entire park for an afternoon of family fun.

Events For Everyone

Whether you are a serious runner or casual walker or somewhere in between, there is a Ladybug event that is just right for you. In addition to the 5K run and walk and the 10K run individual events, we are excited to announce a great team event for this year’s race, a 2-Person 10K Relay. The whole family can get involved because there are also great events just for the kids, a mile and half-mile kid’s run and the oh-so-cute diaper dash for the little ones. Runners and walkers alike will enjoy making their way through the two beautiful and distinct 5k courses (we don’t like repeating loops either). Even if you can’t be with us in Cook Park for the event, you can still participate by running your own virtual 5K or 10k wherever you happen to be. Register today and help us help out a great cause.

After The Race

The fun doesn't stop after you triumphantly cross the finish line, all of our registered participants will be treated to what many think is some of the best food, drinks, and tasty goodies offered by any race event in the Northwest. Participants over 21 will have their choice of great Northwest brewed craft beers from two local brewers, Ordnance and Pelican Brewing. Atlas will be pouring their ciders for our thirsty finishers. Enjoy great live music all afternoon and make it a fun day for the whole family in the park for a great cause!

5K Course

Runners and walkers alike will enjoy making their way through the beautiful, stroller-friendly 5K course that begins in Cook Park in Tigard and winds it’s way west through paved and cool, shaded forest trails next to the Tualatin River for the first mile. At the end of the paved trails, a short, but challenging hill brings our runners and walkers out of Cook Park onto 108th Avenue and north though Tigard neighborhoods and turning back east on wide sidewalks along Durham Road through mile 2 and turning south at Tigard High School down 92nd Avenue and back into Cook Park and past the mile 3 marker near the butterfly garden area and through a shaded corridor to the start/finish line!

10K Course

The 10K run course continues through and past the start/finish line but instead of repeating the 5K course, turns south on the Tualatin River trail to the Cook Park boat launch area and winding along the Tualatin river and under the railroad tracks turning south onto the Fanno Creek Greenway Trail, across the Tualatin River on the pedestrian bridge and past the Tualatin Dog Park and looping back north at the northern edge of Tualatin City park through a scenic section of woods right next to the Tualatin River. Exiting the woods runners will be pop back on the Tualatin River Greenway and continue north back across the river and following the Fanno Creek Greenway trail on a loop around the Durham Park Off leash area, on north again to a short out and back at the edge of Cook Park and back south and following the trails to the turn for home at the butterfly garden back to the finish line!

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

All funds from the race go to the Ladybug CDH Foundation (http://www.ladybugcdhfoundation.com). The foundation benefits children and families whose lives have been affected by a birth defect called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). CDH Occurs in one out of 2,500 births and has a fatality rate of up to 50%.
Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) is a little known birth defect that occurs in approximately one out of every 2,500 births. This condition results from improper formation of the diaphram and causes the baby's abdominal organs to be displaced, inhibiting proper lung formation. Sadly, up to half of children who are born with CDH do not survive. Watch this video to learn more about CDH
We are 503c charitable, non-profit organization and cannot pay volunteers in cash or with free merchandise. All proceeds from the race go directly to families affected by CDH and to CDH research projects.
You bet! 5K, 10K, and Kids Half-Mile / Mile Race finishers will all get a medal.
Yes, absolutely we do. Without our volunteers there would be no way we could put on this event that gets bigger and better every year. Our sponsors cover our regular expenses like permits, medals, and shirts, but there is so much work that goes into planning and putting on the event and we need all of the help we can get to make it happen.
The course will not be closed. No streets or roads will be closed on race day and public trails in the parks will be open, so we encourage runners to stay on paved trails and sidewalks where available and stay in lanes marked with cones or other markings and be mindful of road traffic and bicyclists and other people using the public trails.
There are plenty of parking spots in the park and some additional spots along 92nd Avenue. Please DO NOT park in the Tigard High School parking or on the street in the neighborhoods around the park. If you plan on leaving early we would strongly encourage you to park in the parking lot near the businesses at the south end of 85th Avenue. There is an entrance to the park at the end of 85th Avenue that is approximately a mile walk/warmup run to the start line. To ensure the safety of our participants, access to 92nd Avenue leading out of the park will be very limited until all of the walkers and runners have cleared the road.
Nope. We have two different courses for the 5k and 10k (we don't like repeating loops either). Check out the course section of the website for more info. for more
Sure you can. We love dogs, but we ask that runners and walkers do NOT bring their dogs or other animals onto the race course unless it is a service animal for a handicapped person. The course is narrow in some places and the animals and leashes could present a tripping hazzard for our participants. Also, please note that Cook Park rules require that dogs remain on a leash at all times while in the park.
Yes there will be an aid station with water at approximately the half-way point on the 5k course. There will be an additional aid station just past the start/finish line for 10k runners beginning the second half of their run. There will be an additional aid station at the edge of Tualatin City Park on the 10k course. Water and snacks will be available at the pavillion near the start/finish line.
The discount is applied when the team size reaches the minimum number of members (8). When your team size reaches 8 or more persons, then the refund will be applied.
We have to keep our expenses to a minimum and can’t provide food for everyone who attends, so the food and snacks on race day are intended for paid participants in the race only.
Yes, there will be a bag check available however, we recommend you lock any valuables you bring with you in your vehicle rather than checking them with your bag.
You can get your race results/time from the race timer after you finish the race. Race results will also be published online as well.
The race will be capped at 750 participants. The number of virtual participants is unlimited.
Nope, there is no cutoff time for completion of any event.
Our primary concern is for the safety of our participants and volunteers. In the event of bad weather, the race director will make a determination if the event is to be cancelled or go ahead as scheduled. There is not alternate day for the event and no refunds can be provided if the event is cancelled due to weather conditions.
To guarantee a medal and a t-shirt in the size you want, you need to register on or before June 1, 2018. We need to order shirts and medals in plenty of time to ensure they arrive in time for the race.
The park has plenty of bathrooms available to accommodate all of our participants. Some are even conveniently located along the course.
There are public restrooms in Cook Park that can be used to change clothing. There are no shower facilities available for the event.
Yes, there will be a corral start with participants lining up according to their average minutes/mile pace. Runners will be released in staggered groups in pace order (fastest to slowest) to prevent congestion on the course. Walkers will start after the last runners have
Yes, participants who are assigned to different pace groups but wish to start together may do so, however participants may only move back to slower pace groups, not forward to faster groups.
Day of race registration will be available until the race sells out. Keep in mind, prices will be higher and we can't guarantee a medal or t-shirt/size if you register for the race after June 1, 2018.
Yes, but we encourage everyone to pick up their bib and race packet early at one of the scheduled packet pickup events. If you can’t make it to a packet pickup event, please make sure you arrive early on race day to ensure you get your bib before the race starts.

Be sure to visit their businesses and let them know you appreciate what they do for our event and more importantly, for the children and families that their generous donations help.
